Git LookBack is a web application that visualizes your GitHub contribution statistics. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

Data We Collect

When you authenticate with GitHub, we access the following information through GitHub's API:

  • Your public GitHub profile information (username, avatar)
  • Your public contribution history for the current year
  • Your public repository information (names, languages, stars)
  • Contribution patterns (commits, pull requests, issues)

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to:

  • Generate your personalized year-in-review statistics
  • Create visual representations of your coding activity
  • Determine your developer persona based on contribution patterns

Data Storage

We temporarily cache your GitHub statistics to improve performance. This cached data is automatically deleted after 24 hours. We do not permanently store your GitHub data or share it with third parties.

GitHub OAuth

We use GitHub OAuth for authentication with the minimal read:user scope. This means we can only read your public profile information and cannot modify any of your GitHub data, repositories, or settings.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • GitHub API - To fetch your contribution data
  • Vercel - For hosting and analytics

Your Rights

You can:

  • Revoke access at any time through your GitHub settings
  • Request deletion of any cached data by contacting us
  • Access your data by viewing your generated statistics
